Exhibition - The fortress by the sea

Location: Trelleborg
Arena/Place:
Category: Children/family, Group travel destination, Museer
Date: Monday 26 jun 2023 - Sunday 29 Oct 2023

Welcome to Trelleborgen's new exhibition in the Viking Museum. Finds from the site and recreated craftsmanship are shown here.

The exhibition shows archaeological finds from the site. Most come from the settlement that was on the site before the fortress was built. It was probably an important anchorage for trade and contacts across the Baltic during the Vendel and Viking Ages. The finds include Slavic pottery and a carnelian pearl from the Middle East. In addition, a jaw is shown from one of the inhabitants of Söderslätt, who is being investigated in a fascinating DNA project.

Annika Börjesson, art curator at Trelleborg Museums, has designed and produced the exhibition. Through a number of artistic collaborations, in combination with audiovisual productions and imaginative constructions, she has produced an immersive experience that takes the visitor into an enchanted world.

The exhibition is open daily throughout the summer with guided tours Tuesday-Saturday at 15.00.
