Åmossarna offers great biodiversity in the midst of the heavily cultivated agricultural landscape. The elongated water system acts as a resting place for several different bird species.
Several animals and plant species in the area are red listed according to ArtDatabanken because they are threatened, vulnerable or disadvantaged.

Findings have been made here from the Stone Age and Bronze Age piles are visible from the area.
Åmossarna is located along the road between Trelleborg and Uppåkra, which in the past was an important trading place. The area has probably been a rest area not only for birds, but also for people on the road.
